I think people were very concernedd about the ballot questions. I don't think this election is any more important than past elections but it was still important. I think the internet has a huge impact on the elections. There are ads and websites and the candidates were all over theinternet. I think wesbistes like youtube and facebook should be allowed in school for educational uses. There are a lot of reasons they are helpful. I feel like since there were differnt classes that werent really connected, it was hard to work as a group. mAYBE if they worked together ahead of time, it would go more smoothly

1) Effectiveness-
I think some of the effective things in this election day project was getting people to answer exit poles. I really didn't expect so many people to actually come up to us and take a paper off the table and fill it out!

2)Voting and elections-
I learned all about the electoral colleges and how they work and how states get a number for points if theyre won. i also learned many of the issues and what the people really think about our country.
The most important issue in this election by far is definetly the economy/stock market. This is obviously a big deal in our country today and voters also think so too. And I do that this election is far more important than others because this country is in a "rut" right now and we need someone to lead us the way out.

I thought that most of the election process on Tuesday went well. I thought it was great to get students involved in the election because i think it was an important election.
I noticed that alot of people thought that economy was the most important issue during this election. If i was involved in the election as i was, i dont think that i would have the understanding for some issues and the election process as i do now.
I thought it was really great to involve technology in this election and use computers to communicate between different polling stations.
I do think that websites like facebook and youtube and myspace should be allowed in schools for educational uses. I dont think there is any thing wrong with that.
Some things that could've been better was some peoples' knowledge about the election. I think that especially for the people performing the interveiws it was important to be well educated about the issues and canidates.
Over all I enjoyed working on this election. I thought it was a good experience and an important experience.

Evaluate and Summarize-

Here are some essential questions to draw conclusions about this Project. Please answer or comment on at least a few.

1. Effectiveness:

What were the most effective parts of this Election Day Project? Explain.
I thought the mock election was the most effective. It let us get an idea of what our future voters think.

What were some aspects that needed improvement?
I think we need to prepare for the events on election day sooner, so we don’t get confused on what to do.

2. Voting and Elections:

What did you learn about political elections and voting?
I learned that usually students have a general idea on what is going to happen with the election.

What affects the way people vote in a political election?
Usually their background and where they come from effects who they vote for.

What was the most important issue to people in this Election?
The economy was the most important issue.
Do you think this Election was more important than other Elections?
I think it was, because our economy is at state, the war is at state, and either way we made history with a black president or a women vice president.
3. Social Media:

What role do you think social media and the internet now have in elections?
I think that the social media persuade a lot of people that don’t know the issues by themselves and are influenced by what the media says.

What is the best way to create effective social media for a community?
If we make rules about the media being equal we can give everyone a chance in the media.
Do you think social media sites like youtube, facebook and myspace should be allowed in schools for educational uses? Yes, they have a lot of information on them, but we should have restricted use so people don’t use them inappropriately.

Do you enjoy working on collaborative technology/media projects? Explain.
Yes, it’s a good change from the ordinary pen and paper format. It also allows me to think better and want to participate.
Do you find it interesting to work on projects that involve the community?
I think it’s a good idea to get involved with our community, it helps strengthen it.

4. News reporting and polling:

What makes an interview effective?
You need informative questions, ask a lot of different people, be open-minded to what the interviewee says.

What makes a news report effective?
Having all your facts right and not being one-sided.
How do media and news reports affect people's social/political views and how they vote? Usually people follow what the media says if the media is something they believe in.
Explain. (give examples)

5. Share other comments on the Election Day Project:
It was a blast we should do it again

1. The most effective parts were that we were able to have everyone vote in some sort of order and it was very well organized. The thing that was hard was telling everyone what district we were, there should have been some sort of sign written on a board.

2. I learned that there were a lot of people who leaned more towards Obama. This was a very important election since our country is in an economic crisis.

3. I think that youtube should be used for educational purposes because it has some good information on it. I do find it interesting to work on projects that involve the community.

5. Overall the election day went really well. It was interesting to find out what people thought in our school that are not able to vote. It was also neat to do the exit pollings and collect data from the people of different towns.

What were the most effective parts of this Election Day Project? Explain.
It helped to spark students interest in voting and politics.

What were some aspects that needed improvement?
(besides the bad video cable connections with Comcast)
i think a little more organization would have helped. throughout the day there seemed to be a lot of confusion.

2. Voting and Elections:

What did you learn about political elections and voting?
i learned that for many people it's a really touchy subject. i learned where to get information about political candidates that is valid and unbias.

What affects the way people vote in a political election?
many things. a lot of people i spoke with said that they vote more for certain policies than for a political party. i think people really pay attention to what each presidential candidate proposes to do in certain situations and make a decision based on that.

What was the most important issue to people in this Election?
i think it's a tie between the economy and the Iraq war.

Do you think this Election was more important than other Elections?
definately. almost everyone in one way or another has been dissapointed with the way our country has been heading these past eight years.

3. Social Media:

What role do you think social media and the internet now have in elections?
i think the media has a lot more influence than it used to. while it may have been hard to find information years ago, now it seems everyone has an unlimited access to information (bias or not)

What is the best way to create effective social media for a community?
i believe what was done this election was effective. going around town and conducting surveys lets people in the community voice their opinion.

Do you think social media sites like youtube, facebook and myspace should be allowed in schools for educational uses? Explain.
for youtube at least. there have been many cases where teachers have tried to conduct a class using a piece of information from the internet but couldn't due to our schools restrictions on certain sites.

Do you enjoy working on collaborative technology/media projects? Explain.
yes. it was a very fun experience. although i'm not great with technology and computers, i enjoyed using it to get information out to people

Do you find it interesting to work on projects that involve the community?
yeah. i think there should be a good balance between the community and other larger issues.

6. Suggestions for future collaborative social media projects:
i think they should occur more often.

1. I felt the most effective part of this Election Day Project. Without those polls, we wouldn't have had the data we did.

2. I learned that the race, age, color, or religion doesn't affect the way people vote. They don't really care how old the candidates are or what their color is. Most people voted for policy not party. The most important issue to the people was the economy or the war. Many people were concerned about getting out of Iraq, but many others were concerned about the economy. I personally think this election was more important than others, but many people didn't.

3. I think the social media and the internet have a big part in elections. Many people find their information through the internet. I think YouTube might be able to be used, but it totally depends on what the school is using it for. Myspace and Facebook shouldn't be allowed because there really isn't much educational information. Yes, I find it interesting to work on projects that involve the community.

I think that this election was an important one because we had a black man running for president and a women running for vice-president.
Schools shouldn't use myspace or facebook but maybe youtube. For one parents might not want kids on myspace or facebook and two it will just allow kids to go on during school. ITS A BAD IDEA!!!!

1. Effectiveness:
The most effective part of this election day project, I'd say, was probably the way all the students worked together and became a very professional team. Everyone was excited and energetic and we all got done fast and afficiently. I think that we impressed a lot of people.

2. Voting and Elections:
What affects the way people vote in a political election?
While doing exit polls, we asked a question curious if people usually vote for a certain party or the policies. The majority of the people said policies.

What was the most important issue to people in this Election?
The majority of the interviewees said that their main concern at the moment, was the economy.

Do you think this Election was more important than other Elections?
I personally think that this particular election was more important than some other past elections for many reasons. The main reason I believe that it is one of the most important is because of the current state of the economy and the war. I think that Obama has a lot of work to do.

3. Social Media:

What role do you think social media and the internet now have in elections?
The role that the social media and the internet have with the elections is incredible. Even Myspace.com had advertisments, encouraging to vote. MTV, Myspace.com, Facebook.com, and most websites and television channels that are mainly watched by teenagers were encouraging everyone to go out and vote.

Do you think social media sites like youtube, facebook and myspace should be allowed in schools for educational uses? Explain.
Yes. If you think about it, everything and everyone (bands, friends, adults, people and so on) is linked to either myspace or facebook. I even have a youtube account as well as a myspace and a youtube. You can watch presicential speeches, or a lot of things educational on youtube. Myspace and Facebook are good use for discovering other people's ideas on the world seeing as there are groups and blogs on them to keep up with.

Do you find it interesting to work on projects that involve the community?
I love to work with the community. You learn about what people outside of the people you're always with believe. It's really incredible how fast you can learn something about one person through one topic. It's fun to work with people outside of the Frontier community.

4. News reporting and polling:

What makes an interview effective?
I think that the interviewer and the questions are what make an interview effective. If you have unspecific questions to ask, some people may be confused or uncomfortable to answer them. You have to be polite, calm and trust worthy.

5. Share other comments on the Election Day Project:
Huge thanks to everyone who worked on it! I had a blast and learned some incerdible things about our country.

6. Suggestions for future collaborative social media projects:
Not so many technical problems :)

The students acted professionally during exit polling and represented Frontier very well. I think all the students learned a lot about the voting process since they were on site while it was taking place. The most important issue to the people was taxes in Massachusetts. I think this election was very important because either party elected would make history. You would have the first female vice president or the first black president in the United States. The social media and internet are involved with elections because videos from the candidates entire campaign are posted on the internet. I think it is interesting to work with the community because you find out what other people think about issues in our country. To make a good interview you have to be polite and considerate to the people you are interviewing and if they do not want to respond you have to respect them and act professionally. Media and news reports effect peoples decisions on voting when they share good information, and information that is important to that person voting.

The most effective parts of this Election Day Project were the words being used to get information across. It’s because without them it be just a picture.

Improvements could have been better voice recordings.

I learned about my candidates stances on the issues of today.

There political views and opinions affect the vote in a political election, such as who’s plans are better suited for the country.

The most important of issues for people in this election is the economy.

Yes, this election was more important than others because history was made.

The media and internet got information to the people faster. It also served to promote or demote popularity of the candidates.

The best way to create an effective social media for a commnitty is to let the community know your making social media for the community and to get people involved.

Social media sites like youtube, facebook and myspace should be allowed in schools for educational uses.

Yes and no that I like to work on collaborative technology/media projects, yes because it gives me something to do and no because I don’t like doing work that’s repetitive.

I find it interesting to work on projects that involve the community

the interview is effective if the questionnaire has thoughtful questions that tactful get the most information.

A news report is effective when it gets the widest audience and is accurate.

Media and news reports affect people's social/political views and how they vote by informing them about the way candidates will say they will do things.

The other projects were nice.

I have no suggestions I would like to share.

The most effective parts of the election projects were to learn about how elections are run. I think the mock elections were run well. I learned how elections work; I think the election was very important because either way the election would make history. I think an important issue for people in Massachusetts was taxes. The social media and internet have an impact on the elections you can watch videos from debates on the internet. I think it is interesting to work on projects that involve the community. An interview is effective when good questions are asked and you are polite to the people you interview. A news report is effective when they have good, truthful information.

the most effective thing was that we had people collecting information at all the polling stations and sending it in to get it calculated. the things that need to be improved would be the communication between the people going to the polls and the teachers and how to get to the polls. i learned that people won't alway base there choice on the issues but on the candidate that they like better. this election is the same as any other election that we have had during war with so many of the voters out of the country. i think that social media and the internet have a big effect on the election because it puts all the issues and what the candidates think in one place. it is very interresting to work with projects that involve the community becaause you can hear what the community thinks of what the project is about. the thing that makes a news report and interview effective is that it has the issue that will really influence the people that are watching it and that will keep the attention of the audience for the longest time. these will effect the way that people look at the candidates because they give information that could either help or destroy the image we have of the candidate and also how the will help or hurt the country. for future projects make sure everyone knows what they are doing and can get to the polls .

I believe that the election project was a great success, there were many things such as interviews that were very effective. The exit polling is a way to predict how the region will vote in the future. Also it shows that even in small towns like the Franklin county there are many diverse opinions.

Do you think social media sites like youtube, facebook and myspace should be allowed in schools for educational uses? Explain.

I can understand why schools would want to block these sites because it can be distracting to students and no work will get done. I, however, critcally need youtube for a school project. I'm creating a documentary and the video from youtube would be a great asset. The sad thing is, if someone where to bring that arguement to a school official then it would be shot down because students would deffinitally abuse the use of youtube.
